The Mask

September 5, 2010

I wrote this poem last year based on a horrible experience that I went through with a guy.  I’ve since moved on, but just having to go through the pain was gut wrenching.  The poem is pretty straight forward and no analysis is needed.  Once again, you are reading the raw and unedited version of another one of my poems.  Maybe one day when I have more time I’ll change things up a little, but other than that, enjoy it for what it is!  🙂

“The Mask”

By M. S.

Fooled by your disguise
Blinded by your light

You took me by surprise
My heart took flight.

You built me up so high
Little did I know,
Everything was just a lie
You should have let me go.

When did you know?
When did it start?
How could you be so cold?
You’re breaking my heart.

These tears are blurring my vision
But I can’t stop seeing red.
You chose our division
And let go of everything we had.

One night with me, another with her.
You’re an expert at this game you play
Always the winner when it’s all over
Never expecting me in your driveway.

Stop this bleeding before it’s too late
Mend this gaping hole in my chest
I fell for you and took the bait
Little did I know, I was only second best.
